Transportation Supervisor
Geographical Scope: Country
Department: General Management
Key Relationships:
- Internal – All Line Managers, Regional office.
- External
Function:
Supervises day-to-day transportation functions to ensure carrier performance, customer satisfaction, and that Department and Company objectives for efficiency, reliability, and productivity are met or exceeded.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Utilize fleet and drivers efficiently and cost effectively and control agency hours where necessary
2. Ensure vehicles are allocated to drivers and manage drivers working hours.
3. Ensure that “License” requirements are adhered to and Company regulations are fulfilled ensure any vehicles and equipment used by the Company comply with the relevant legislation.
4. Ensure that the correct control of the Defect Procedure is adhered to at all times.
5. Communicate with terminal staff to ensure smooth reception and dispatch and to ensure resources for the operation are sufficient.
6. Communicate regularly with drivers and resolve issues in a timely manner.
7. Ensure that all paperwork, reports and all systems are accurate and meet specific deadlines and that reports needs adhere to required standards.
8. Dispatch drivers with run sheets, manifests and vehicle check sheets and ensure accurate records of Driver, Tractor, Trailer, and Rigid are kept against runs performed on Atlas.
9. Report issues to relevant managers and ensure that matters are dealt with.
10. Ensure personnel records are accurate, up to date and that procedures are adhered to including recruitment, leavers, changes etc.
11. Monitor accident/incidents, conduct accident investigations and follow up action where necessary acting immediately on any breach of company H&S policy.
12. Conduct work in conjunction with site Health and Safety Manager to improve safety or working environments and ensure drivers are appropriately trained to perform the tasks they are being asked to perform.
Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of all transportation modes, billing, and claims processes
• Familiarity with transportation law principles
• Functional knowledge of all modes of transportation, fleet, private, and parcel
Experience:
- 2-5 years’ experience in managing transportation inbound and outbound, etc.
Skills:
a) Applicants must have previous experience within a similar Transport / Logistics related position.
b) Experience of managing a team.
c) Strong Written and verbal communication skills.
d) Strong people management skills, leading by example, engaging with colleagues at all levels.
e) Strong administration skills.
