Responsibilities:
- Manage a business unit of 200,000 to 300,000 hectares of forest concession as well as providing leadership for effective implementation of operational level business plans and achievement of key targets within the environmental and social sustainability standards.
- As a member of the senior management team, you will engage in reviewing and updating policies, procedures and systems, as well as adopting industry best practices. You will also evaluate and implement special initiatives at operational level in order to enhance overall productivity, cost management and achieve operational excellence.
- Manage and control all forestry projects including conservation planning and land management, formulate and consolidate the operating budgets for these projects as well as to supervise the operational and administrative functions of the estates and mills in Indonesia.
- Manage harvesting and planting activities to achieve Company targets on a daily, monthly and annual basis as well as prepare, present and achieve annual work plans and budgets.
- Source and allocate resources required to meet production targets. This includes but is not exclusive to manpower, heavy equipment and supporting utilities.
- Manage contract work forces including rate setting and performance standards.
- Manage all operational activities according to Company standard operating procedures. Develop and manage a continuous improvement program that increases productivity and lowers cost.
- Ensure that all operations meet international standards for health, safety and environment, stay within project specifications and are carried out within the guidelines approved by the CEO/The Board.
- Ensure that a professional organization structure is maintained at all times. Recruit, train and develop a productive and cohesive team to meet the highest possible operation standards.
- Make regular reports detailing all key aspects of production and cost for the Board of Directors.
- Make regular field inspections of all field activities. Provide technical support in GIS or other relational database technologies to conservancy staff including producing maps in support of conservation, protection and fundraising activities.
- To maintain good public relations with public and private sector officials and other stakeholders in which the plantations projects are located, including Local Level Governments, Mosques, Churches, Tribal Leaders and Non-Governmental Organizations.
- To maintain day to day contact and represent the CompanyĆ¢€™s interests with all stakeholders including community leaders, business and plantation partners.
Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Forestry, Forestry Engineering, Agricultural Science or a relevant field.
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience managing large scale forestry projects preferably in Indonesia with a high level of technical competency in harvesting and plantation management.
- Good knowledge and experience in forestry ecology and forest management practices that incorporate biological diversity goals and experience with forest certifications, sustainable forestry practices, forest economics, reforestation and silvicultural practices preferred.
- Have good track record in compliance to NGO requirements.
- Ability to translate plantation policy statements and strategies into action plans that are realistic and achievable.
- Computer literate and able to analyze, review and optimize critical paths for successful plantation project implementation.
- Able to use statistical and graphical analyses of the full range of plantation data to predict long term production and financial viability & sustainability of plantation projects, especially during periods of low commodity prices.
- Able to understand, dissect and analyze plantation accounts, operating budgets and yield statistics to assess past company performance and future risks to financial sustainability.
- Cost-conscious and result orientated as well as prudent allocation of finances and resources and minimization of cost to achieve business goals and company objectives.
- Able to make Board Room presentation of planting, production and financial data and analysis demonstrating understanding of basic financial and business management principles.
- Able to coordinate and manage the time-tables of Estate & Mill Managers in a timely, efficient manner and be able to cultivate teamwork in tackling plantation project work programs.
- Exhibit a high level of inter-personal skills and the ability to interact and influence stakeholders at senior levels to adopt company strategies and programs for successful plantation project implementation.
- Effective leader who understand Indonesian work culture and team dynamics and possesses integrity and business ethics of the highest order.
- Analytical and innovative with conceptual ability and business acumen.
